Everyone has fat deposited throughout their body that they would like removed and liposuction is the most popular cosmetic surgery performed that can do this. However, liposuction doesn’t get all the fat as doctors often leave a layer of it to prevent the outer skin from looking lumpy or deformed. With liposculpture, this fat as well as other deposits that are not easily reached by traditional methods can be removed with ease.

The Appeal of this Procedure

Liposculpture is still liposuction and sometimes the names are used interchangeably but the fact is, they are a bit different – in both technique and recovery times. When comparing liposuction before and after pictures, a huge difference in the removal of fatty deposits can be noticed, but there still may be some bumps that could not be smoothed out properly. Liposculpture can help take care of those bumps, which are likely fat cells that could not be removed properly by traditional methods due to the possibility of disfigurement.

While traditional liposuction requires general anesthesia and can be quite invasive, liposculpture only needs local anesthesia and you could even drive yourself home and be active within a day or two. Liposuction is targeted towards those people who have excessive body fat that remains after diet and exercise alone cannot remove them. People who are thin but have fatty deposits (much less than others) are often turned down for lipo but liposculpture is an excellent option for them.

The Procedure Itself

Liposculpture is called by another name – ultrasound-assisted liposuction – and the procedure uses ultrasound energy aimed at the fat cells to break them up. Just like with traditional lipo, the affected area in question is injected with a saline anesthetic numbing agent and also contains adrenaline to not only deaden the area but also shrink the blood vessels to prevent damage during the procedure. Because this numbing agent is localized, people are often awake for the procedure.

A small incision is placed at the affected area and the surgeon then inserts a cannula into the incision which will then emit ultrasound energy. This ultrasound energy causes the walls of the fat cells to break down, softening the fat so it can then be suctioned out, much like traditional lipo techniques. This liposculpture technique is less invasive because the ultrasound energy literally liquefies the fat and is removed more easily.

The reason why liposculpture is becoming more popular is that it targets the fat that seems to exist right under the skin, a place where traditional methods cannot touch without causing damage. The cannula is much smaller for liposculpture and ultrasound energy is perfect for those layers right under the skin as it does not cause damage. Recovery time is also a lot shorter and can be measured in days rather than weeks or months. In fact, regular activities are often resumed within just a few days, including physical pursuits. Liposculpture is also the perfect option for those people who are seeking additional body contouring or tweaking from past liposuction procedures.
