Add to your... Add to your...

If the food tastes great, more often than not it is food high in cholesterol. They are not wrong when they say if it tastes good it can’t be good for you. This does not mean that you have to give up all that you like to eat, the key is moderation.

Foods high in cholesterol have saturated fats in high quantity. When we consume a lot of saturated fat the lever tends to produce more LDL, bad cholesterol. Fatty foods are not bad for the heart. What are bad are the foods with saturated fat and triglycerides. Fatty foods rich in unsaturated fats is actually good for you and for your heart, as its consumption makes the liver produce HDL, good cholesterol.

Saturated fats are normally found in post animal products that we consume along with high fat dairy produce. Egg yolk, meat, fish, poultry, butter, cheese, high fat milk and yoghurt are all sources of saturated fats. So do we stop eating meat and become vegetarians? Not necessarily, you can continue eating what you prefer, but in smaller quantities along with food that is good for you. Vegetarian food though healthy if fried or cooked in plenty of saturated fat, can be equally high in cholesterol.

Rather than completely avoid these naturally high cholesterol foods, it is better to take care of how the food is cooked. Rather than what you eat, you need to take care of how you eat it.

Plenty of zero cholesterol foods can play havoc with your bodies if not used properly or cooked properly. Just because it does not have cholesterol it doesn’t mean that it is a healthy option. Coconut oil is a zero cholesterol item but it is very high in saturated fats. Anything cooked in this medium automatically becomes a saturated fat bomb. So when you eat food cooked in coconut oil you are inviting the lever to go into overdrive with LDL production. This could be quite unhealthy.

Besides these high cholesterol foods, you need to stay away from packaged and processed foods. This includes most snacks and munchies as they are fried, desserts like sponge cakes, ice-creams, muffins, pastries, cookies and all those yummy things you like to eat between meals! Well yes most of us are so hooked to the high cholesterol foods, cutting down on them is going to be quite a task.

Look for healthy options. Cut down on food high in cholesterol and opt for healthy unsaturated fats to boost the production of HDL in the body.
