Sarah and Jerry have been married for five years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have a family and so they by design established a super exciting social life.
The main issue, however, is that practically everything they do socially includes drinking. For instance, all of the sporting events, parties with friends, dinner engagements, happy hours, and family get-togethers they go to include drinking.
Sarah and Jerry Start to Notice Some Unmistakable Alcohol Related Problems That are Associated With Their Abusive Drinking
If they were responsible drinkers, this wouldn’t be a big issue. Due to the fact they drink in a hazardous manner, however, they are starting to take note of some definite alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.
For instance, just four weeks ago Jerry got his first DWI and has been taking time off from work due to alcohol-related health problems. Not only this, but Jerry’s last two performance reviews at work have been less than praiseworthy and he has begun to forget what he does or says when he drinks. Lastly, Jerry has been going through sleep-related problems and his family is starting to show concern about his drinking activities.
Not unlike Jerry’s situation, Sarah has been feeling down in the dumps with life and to manage these feelings, she has been drinking more habitually than any time in the past six months. Not only this, but Sarah has been getting a lot of throbbing migraine headaches and experiencing awful hangovers after drinking. Finally, Sarah has been feeling substantially less active when she awakens, she has been getting to work late at least two days per week, and she has been getting some unhelpful criticism from her relatives, friends, coworkers, and family members about her excessive drinking.
Watching the TV and Flipping the Channels and Discovering A Remarkable Program About the Signs of Alcohol Addiction
One Wednesday evening while watching TV, Jerry and Sarah without any planning at all found an attention-grabbing documentary about the signs of alcoholism.
This television special was a real shock to Sarah and Jerry because some of the alcoholism signs that were discussed gave them the impression that they were directly related to more than a few of the alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been experiencing.
An Open Dialogue About Drinking Activities Discloses Alcohol Related Health, Legal, Relationship, Financial, and Employment Problems
After watching the television special, Sarah and Jerry made up their minds to have an honest chat about their drinking situation. They both concurred that most, if not all, of their social activities had something to do with drinking, that they were drinking in a hazardous manner, and that as a married couple, they were starting to make note of alcohol related employment, legal, financial, health, and relationship problems for the first time since they were married.
With thoughts of the television documentary still fresh in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could be a signal that they are alcohol dependent or conceivably becoming alcoholic. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s question and so he suggested that they schedule an appointment with one of the doctors at the local drug and alcohol rehab facility to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking issues.
Coming to Terms With Your Drinking Problems Might Reduce Your Trepidation and Give You Some Serenity
Paradoxically, even though their drinking situation hadn’t yet changed, it was noticeable that Sarah and Jerry were at the very least facing their drinking difficulties, they were eager to find out more about their drinking situation, and they were concerned about how they could appreciably cut back on or eliminate the drinking-related issues that had begun to intensify.
When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that evening, they came to a decision that the next day, Jerry would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility located downtown. After they promised one another that they would do whatever it takes to conquer the drinking problems that had developed in their lives, they actually had the most energizing night’s sleep they could think of in the last four months.
Just before he fell asleep, Jerry turned to Sarah and noted how effortless it is to decrease one’s anxiety and truly experience some serenity by attending to one’s problems straight on and making up one’s mind to do something constructive about them.
